The Best Day
by: Anya

"Mom! Can we go now??" I ask impatiently.
"Get the rest of your stuff. We're leaving in about five minutes." Comes the reply.
Today is the day. Finally, after four years of being apart, only talking through email and over the phone, my best friend Emma and I will see each other again.
It was hard, finding out about moving to North Carolina, then Alabama. But worse, leaving Emma behind. My best friend since birth, Emma and I would do anything to see each other again.
I walk out to the car, holding the rest of the stuff from the hotel room and sit in my seat, behind the driver's seat. My excitement was building, because I knew that with every move I made it was getting me closer to my best friend.
Driving was torture, passing every exit that wasn't ours. I was hungry, but I didn't dare ask to stop for food. Why delay the happy reunion with Emma?
"Okay guys, this is their exit," My mom says. "We're about five minutes from their house."
The people living in our house had not yet left, so I would get to spend every waking moment with Emma while we were staying at their house. I almost bounced straight through the roof of the car when I saw the farmilar yellow siding, dark green shutters, and best of all, Matt, Emma's dad and Conor, her older brother. I'm out of the car before it's even parked. I give a big hug to Matt and Conor, and then Matt directs me to the garage door, where Jen, Emma's mom, is waiting.
"She's in her room," Jen says, after giving me a hug.
It's hard, but I manage to go upstairs quietly and tiptoe into Emma's room.
"Hi Emma!!" I say, voice filled with excitement.
"Anya??" she says quietly, as though she can't believe it.
"Yeah!" I reply quickly.
She screams.
I run to her and give her a hug.
"I can't believe you're here!!" She says.
"Honestly, neither can I!" I say joyously.
I knew that, in that moment, I might never feel as happy as I am right now.
Wow, I thought. This really is the best day.
